Truecaller introduces the most important AI feature that you need to know right away
Popular caller ID app Truecaller has introduced a new call recording feature for its premium iOS subscribers, in addition to a similar feature already available for Android users.
Truecaller provides AI-enhanced call recording feature
Call recording debuted on Truecaller Android platform in 2018 for premium users, and by 2021, it's available to all Android users. However, after Google decision in 2022 to restrict access to the Accessibility API, Truecaller's tool and other apps used to record calls, Truecaller was forced to withdraw the feature.
Truecaller has announced that it will soon introduce a feature that provides users with transcripts of their recorded calls. The company plans to launch the AI-enhanced calling feature in the coming weeks.
Details of the new Truecaller feature
Users will be able to search texts for specific information, providing a convenient reference for recorded conversations. Note that all recordings are stored locally on users' devices, ensuring privacy and data control.
Truecaller tested the call recording functionality with a select group of iOS users in the US before making it officially available to all Premium subscribers. The company offers three subscription plans in the US, Basic plan is ad-free at $1 per month, premium plan includes call recording at $3.99 per month, and premium plan at $4.49 per month offers call screening assistant.
Truecaller co-founder Nami Zarringhalam stated that the call recording feature will soon be expanded to other countries, including India, The largest market for Truecaller. The app currently has more than 500,000 users in the US, with 10% subscribed to a paid plan, and a total of 350 million users worldwide. In India alone, Truecaller has a user base of 100 million users.
Rafael Mimon, Cloud Telephony Product Manager at Truecaller, expressed the inspiration behind this call recording feature, citing developments in language learning models (LLMs) that seek to redefine the call recording experience. The company expects this new functionality to significantly change how users manage, retrieve, and utilize their conversations.
